Without trying to recap the aggregate of generally criminal—at least certainly inhuman—behaviors acted out by the current administration, it’s impossible to still not gawk at the brash arrogance of the hatred that is overflowing into the public discourse. The language alone that is being used sounds like these elected officials are pitching a script for 24.
“Do you really want to wait until people are injuring each other, throwing Molotov cocktails, picking up barricades and smashing them through businesses in downtown Phoenix? You now have a situation where you have full-time, almost professional agent-provocateurs that attempt to create public disorder. A lot of them are ideologues, some of them are anarchists. But this stuff is all planned.”
This level of social conduct—leading with a flag and gun—is as ridiculous as it is dangerous.1 The vast amount of Americans who are losing their shit have good reason to be. The only threat this administration has seen so far has been in public demonstrations of peace, and the response has been disproportionate to say the least.2 When—not if—another violent or terrorist attack occurs on American soil, much will be revealed as to how this administration will respond to actual threats. Given that the President seems to play golf more than read intelligence reports, I doubt we’ll be waiting much longer to see.
Meanwhile, the rhetoric of the White House has consumed the nation, fueled by the dumpster fire of greed and gossip that is the capitalist core of our social structure. While this hate flourishes, the resounding call for Peace through Strength3 empowers Trump-supporting lawmakers to back up their beliefs in force.
